Vice Chancellors' Packages

Sydney Morning Herald, 12-13 May 2001

Director of the executive search firm, Horsley & Co, Mr Andrew Horsley said the salaries were reflective of universities coming into line with the market and that some vice chancellors were probably underpaid. "In academic circles these figures might seem a lot but compared to the packages of CEOs of companies with a similar sort of turnover, these are quite modest," Mr Horsley said.

"If you look at overseas, they are probably a bargain: there should be a premium for management expertise in running what are increasingly complex structures".
