Andrew Horsley, director of executive search consultant Horsley & Company, says: "It is in the nature of any organisation that there will always be some element of rivalry leading to fights, jealousy and job-hopping when it comes to carving up the rewards." But he says devious and dishonest behaviour in the pursuit of bonuses was more likely to arise when the system was administered in a way that wasn't clear or precise.
